MCLEAN, Va., January 27, 2011 — FORTUNE magazine has named The MITRE Corporation to its 2011 list of "100 Best Companies to Work For." This is the 10th consecutive year MITRE has been recognized as one of the country's top employers, joining a small group of companies with this distinction.

MITRE ranked number 96 overall on this year's list. The not-for-profit organization earned the number three spot for work-life balance and was included in the category of companies with low turnover.

"Being recognized by FORTUNE for a decade is a significant achievement," said Alfred Grasso, MITRE president and CEO. "Our employees make this possible. It's their talent and commitment that make MITRE an engaging workplace, which in turn enables us to deliver the highest quality support to our government sponsors."

To pick the 100 Best Companies to Work For, FORTUNE partners with the Great Place to Work Institute to conduct the most extensive employee survey in corporate America. Three hundred eleven companies participated in this year's survey. Two-thirds of a company's score is based on the results of the Institute's Trust Index survey, which is sent to a random sample of employees from each company. The survey (sent to 374 MITRE employees) asks questions related to their attitudes about management's credibility, job satisfaction, and camaraderie. The other third of the scoring is based on the company's responses to the Institute's Culture Audit, which includes detailed questions about pay and benefit programs and a series of open-ended questions about hiring practices, internal communications, training, recognition programs and diversity efforts. Any company that is at least seven years old with more than 1,000 U.S. employees is eligible.

Now in its 14th year, the Best Companies list is featured in the February 7, 2011, edition of FORTUNE and online at http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/bestcompanies/2011/.
