MITRE's Robert D. Jensen Named as HIMSS Fellow FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MITRE Contacts: Karina H. Wright Eryn L. Gallagher MCLEAN, Va., January 13, 2012 — Robert D. Jensen, Executive Director of the Center for Transforming Health at The MITRE Corporation, has been named as a member of the HIMSS community of Fellows. HIMSS is the largest cause-based, not-for-profit healthcare association focused on the optimal use of information technology and management systems for the betterment of healthcare. "We are honored that Rob was selected as a HIMSS Fellow," said Jason Providakes, Senior Vice President and General Manager of MITRE's Center for Connected Government, of which the Center for Transforming Health is a part. "Rob is dedicated to advancing the nation's progress toward an integrated health system with improved access and quality at sustainable cost and to delivering break-through ideas in health information technology to our customers in the Department of Health and Human Services and other federal health agencies." HIMSS Fellow members are considered leaders within HIMSS and recognized for their contributions and dedication to the Society and healthcare industry. To advance to Fellow status, HIMSS members must meet several criteria based on professional capability, experience, leadership and service to their profession and the Society. Those members who obtain the Fellow member status are awarded the FHIMSS designation, are honored at the HIMSS Annual Conference & Exhibition and asked to participate in special taskforce workgroups. In his current role, Jensen provides strategic counsel to the Department of Health and Human Services, including the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, on their initiatives to expand the use of electronic health records and improve healthcare performance through measurement and new acquisition practices. He directs MITRE's advisement on the Federal Health Architecture initiative for the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. He also provides executive direction to MITRE's health research program. Mr. Jensen spent 12 years in the U.S. Marine Corps as a logistics and data systems officer. He holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Doane College and a master's degree in information systems from the Naval Postgraduate School.
