MCLEAN, Va., April 4, 2013 — IDG's Computerworld Honors Program has announced The MITRE Corporation as a 2013 Laureate. The annual award program recognizes visionary applications of IT promoting positive social, economic and educational change. MITRE was cited for its role in developing an Eliminate Veteran Homelessness (EVH) computational model.

The EVH model was created in collaboration with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Homeless Programs. The model enables VA to conduct timely evaluations of the resource needs of the interdependent federal and community programs that support Veterans. MITRE was among 29 organizations recognized for their technical contributions to Human Services.

"We're honored to be recognized for our role in helping VA with their important work," said Gabriel Galvan, portfolio director of MITRE's Center for Veteran's Enterprise Transformation. "Today, the EVH model is a powerful management tool, helping VA analyze their budget and optimize their resources based on quick, accurate scenario-testing. All of this puts the goal of eliminating Veterans homelessness within reach."

Founded by International Data Group (IDG) in 1988, the Computerworld Honors Program is governed by the not-for-profit Computerworld Information Technology Awards Foundation. Computerworld Honors is the longest running global program to honor individuals and organizations that use IT to promote positive social, economic and educational change. For this year's award, a panel of 22 distinguished judges evaluated the humanitarian benefits and measurable results of applying technology to meet a specific social or business need.

"Technology continues to play a pivotal role in transforming how business and society functions. For the past 25 years the Computerworld Honors Program has had the privilege of celebrating innovative IT achievements," said John Amato, vice president and publisher, Computerworld. "Computerworld is honored to recognize the outstanding accomplishments of the 2013 class of Laureates and to share their work. These projects demonstrate how IT can advance organizations' ability to compete, innovate, communicate and prosper."
