MITRE Appoints Peter Sherlock Senior Vice President and Director of Bedford Operations FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: MITRE Contacts: Karina H. Wright Eryn L. Gallagher BEDFORD, Mass., April 29, 2013 — The MITRE Corporation announced the promotion of Peter Sherlock to senior vice president and director of its Bedford operations. In his new role, Sherlock will be responsible for further strengthening the organization's cross-sector research and development in cybersecurity, aviation, homeland security, law enforcement, and the financial and health care areas. He also helps lead the National Security Engineering Center (NSEC), a federally funded research and development center MITRE operates for the Department of Defense (DoD). Sherlock, who joined MITRE in 1986, has expertise in information technology, telecommunications, and the national security domain. He leads programs for a number of NSEC's customers, with emphasis on information technology and large acquisition programs. Previously, he was executive director for integration in the NSEC, responsible for advancing interoperability solutions for MITRE's DoD and Intelligence Community sponsors. Sherlock also served as executive director of MITRE's Army Systems and Technology Division. "Pete's strong strategic perspective and broad view of MITRE's work and government customer relationships make him a perfect fit for this new role," said Alfred Grasso, MITRE president and CEO. "He will build on MITRE's 55 years of success in Bedford by working to deepen our existing partnerships, forge new opportunities for collaboration and bring the full resources of the organization to bear on critical national challenges." Nearly 2,100 of MITRE's 7,600 employees work at the Bedford campus, providing systems engineering, research and development and IT support to a range of government sponsors and customers. The organization has supported the Air Force's Electronic Systems Center (now part of the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center) at Hanscom Air Force Base for more than 50 years. The Bedford campus houses MITRE's 105,000-square-foot, state-of-the art laboratory to advance research and development of military and civilian technologies as well as the offices for the Advanced Cyber Security Center, the first cross-sector consortium in New England dedicated to addressing the complexities of cybersecurity. Sherlock has an MBA from Rutgers University and a bachelor's and master's degree in electrical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
