| Metzger Promoted to MITRE Vice President MITRE Contacts: Karina H. Wright Eryn L. Gallagher May 4, 1998 — The MITRE Corporation's President and Chief Executive Officer Victor A. DeMarines announced that Dr. Louis S. Metzger has been promoted to Vice President in the Corporation's Center for Air Force Command and Control Systems (CAFC2S). MITRE is an independent, not-for-profit systems engineering firm engaged in scientific and technical activities in the public interest. The corporation manages Federally Funded Research and Development Centers for the Department of Defense and the Federal Aviation Administration and has corporate offices in Northern Virginia and Bedford, Massachusetts, as well as sites worldwide. Metzger, who resides in Wellesley, MA, will be based at the company's corporate headquarters in Bedford, MA. In his new role, Metzger will be deputy to the Air Force Center's senior vice president and general manager, Dr. Harold W. Sorenson. Their center partners with the Air Force and industry to engineer fully integrated, joint service Department of Defense command and control systems. Prior to this, Metzger was executive director of Resources for the Air Force Center, where he led over 1100 technical and support staff in seven directorates. Previously, he was executive director for the Air Force Center's Robust Global Operations programs. Before joining MITRE, Metzger headed M/A-COM Government Systems' Boston Engineering Center, and managed groups at M.I.T Lincoln Laboratory, both in Lexington, Massachusetts. At Lincoln Lab, he contributed to key features of the MILSTAR satellite communications system design. Metzger served on AIAA's Technical Committee on Communications Systems from 1983 to 1986, and on the National Research Council's Air Force Studies Board Committee on Tactical Communications during 1989-1990. He was a Technical Support Group member for DOD's "Bottom-Up" Review of military satellite communications in 1993. He is currently a member of AFCEA and the IEEE, and chaired the Boston Chapter of the IEEE's Communications Society. He also was a member of the MILCOM Conference Board from 1986 to 1997 and Technical Chair of MILCOM'89, and was Technical Program Vice-Chair for IEEE's 1983 International Communications Conference. Dr. Metzger received his Ph.D., Masters and Bachelors degrees in Electrical Engineering at M.I.T. in 1975, 1971 and 1969, respectively. He is a member of Tau Beta Pi, Eta Kappa Nu and Sigma Xi honorary societies.
