| MITRE, Bedford, Burlington Sign Memorandum of Understanding MITRE Contacts: Karina H. Wright Eryn L. Gallagher May 12, 1998 — The MITRE Corporation today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with the towns of Bedford and Burlington, MA, which will encompass a number of roadway improvements in the area. First, MITRE has granted to Burlington approximately four acres of land for the construction of a new roadway across existing company property connecting Route 62 with the Middlesex Turnpike. The roadway will be tree-lined and include a multi-purpose pedestrian pathway. Long-term plans include nine acres of recreational fields and facilities near the present intersection of Route 62 and Middlesex Turnpike. Next, MITRE has granted approximately one acre to Bedford and Burlington for the widening of Route 62, which will ease traffic flow along that route between Route 3 and the entrance to Sun Microsystems. "Throughout the years, MITRE has always been a great corporate neighbor," said Burlington Town Administrator David W. Owen. "This effort over the last year and a half has consisted of significant collaborative effort on the part of MITRE, Bedford and Burlington." "The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding today shows MITRE's continued sensitivity to the quality of life in the communities in which it lives," added Bedford Town Administrator Richard T. Reed. "We work here. Many of us reside here. We're proud of the fact that since 1958 MITRE has been an active community partner." commented MITRE President and Chief Executive Officer Victor A. DeMarines. "We look toward continuing this tradition in the years ahead."
