| MITRE Produces Two Winners for Intel Science Talent Search MITRE Contacts: Karina H. Wright Eryn L. Gallagher March 1999 — The MITRE Corporation in McLean and Reston, VA, has produced two winners this week in the nationwide Intel Science Talent Search. High school seniors David C. Moore of Potomac, MD, and Alexander Wissner-Gross of New Hyde Park, NY, were selected as two of the ten winners from an original field of more than 1,400 entrants in the 58th annual contest. Both developed their winning entries as researchers participating in MITRE's Summer Student Program last year. Moore won for his detailed quantum modeling that determined the electrical properties of a newly proposed design for ultraminiature electronic switches. Wissner-Gross was selected for inventing a method for fabricating nanometer-scale electronic computer circuits. MITRE (www.mitre.org) is an independent, not-for-profit company that performs information technology research and engineering for the government. MITRE's Summer Student Program brings talented high school students and college undergraduates to the company's Virginia facilities for a research experience under the mentorship of its scientists and engineers.
