| MITRE Vice President Named U.S. Air Force Chief Scientist FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE MITRE Contacts: Karina H. Wright Eryn L. Gallagher September 15, 1999 — Dr. Louis S. Metzger (view biography), Vice President of the MITRE Corporation's Center for Air Force C2 Systems in Bedford, Massachusetts, has been named Chief Scientist of the U.S. Air Force. He accepted the appointment from Air Force Chief of Staff General Michael Ryan. During his two-year appointment with the Air Force, which begins this month, Dr. Metzger will serve as chief scientific advisor to the Chief of Staff and the Secretary of the Air Force. He also will provide his assessments on a myriad of scientific and technical issues affecting the Air Force mission. Dr. Metzger is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Armed Forces Communications & Electronics Association, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, and the National Defense Industrial Association. He received his professional education at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Electrical Engineering.
