Collaborative Obsolescence Management and Evaluation Tool (COMET)
by Virginia Day

COMET is a Web-based tool for managing obsolescence problems. It was developed to support the Joint STARS Program. It provides a hierarchical summary of the current obsolescence or DMS (Diminished Manufacturing Sources) status of electronic systems. In particular, separate DMS evaluations and cost estimates are provided at the program, system, subsystem, line replaceable unit (LRU), and circuit card assembly (CCA) levels. These evaluations reflect the likelihood and degree of impending DMS problems so that budgeting for problem resolution may be accomplished.
