MITRE - Y2K - Critical Component Companies and Products
Critical Component Companies and Products

Background
Many companies support system components that are or depend on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products. Many of these products are not Y2K compliant. The dependencies are the subject of considerable industry management study, and have been discussed on various internet and web sites. The products can be categorized as having either specific or systemic dependencies, and affected by one or more of the basic aspects of system building, interface mapping, system migration, and the difficulties in effectively testing for full Y2K compliance.

No single categorization can span the full spectrum of these issues. Several have been tried, but each addresses only a part of the overall problem. The Y2K compliance effort is itself one factor that may well force almost all existing software managers to use one of the existing competing approaches. These are again likely to be of increased use, and expand the list of COTS dependencies for Y2K compliant systems.

There is no way to give a complete list of every vendor and every product's compliance status in existence, but many companies are improving their offerings and we are continually expanding our list of vendors to help make it more useful. Our COTS Product Compliance Catalog presently has around 300 vendor entries.

Vendor Compliance Information
The information on vendors is available in two forms. First is a list of vendors, which you can scan, and then examine the information on specific products supported by that vendor. The second way is through the keyword search facility below. Both methods provide concise write-ups about the products and where additional information can be obtained.

The result of the search on any product name already in the index will give known dates or compliance strategies, and a pointer to the vendor page where detailed information is available. If there is a known way of obtaining more detail, that information is indicated, usually in the clickable field called "Vendor Info." Last, if the vendor provides a web page on their products, a link to it will also be available via the vendor name field.

Vendor Last Updated Information
Please refer to the "Last Updated" and "Source" information near the bottom right of each vendor entry for the last date the information was actually updated, and the source that provided the information. The "Last modified" date is an automatically generated date that is changed each time there is a change made to any entry in the database.
