MITRE's Role in Nanosystems and Nanotechnology R&D

The Nanosystems Group was started in 1992 and has grown to include six full time staff. By leveraging the diverse technical backgrounds and experience of its members, the group is equipped to tackle a wide variety of technical challenges the area of nanotechnology and integrated nanosystems. The group also includes a large summer student research program.

As part of MITRE's Student Program, the Nanosystems Group engages young, talented researchers at the high school and college undergraduate levels in solving important problems in the field of nanotechnology. A number of former summer researchers have gone on to become some of the finest young scientists and professors in their fields, and continue to collaborate with MITRE. In 2006, the Nanosystems Group summer research program consisted of three high school and five undergraduate students, two of whom were returning for their second or third summer.
