Transforming the Health Sector Through Health Information Technology
Achieving universal access to affordable, high-quality healthcare will require streamlined processes and innovative information technology. But the health sector is at the beginning of a long and complex process of transformation that will require interconnecting a fragmented collection of providers, payers, suppliers, planners, researchers, government agencies (federal, tribal, state, local, and territorial), and business entities to forge an integrated system that delivers more value and higher quality care to our citizens.
MITRE's Center for Transforming Health (CTH) supports the development of an integrated health system that provides patient-focused healthcare through increased information technology adoption and the secure exchange of health information. We are playing an active role in increasing the effective use of such patient-focused technology by working collaboratively across the health sector in pursuit of two primary goals. One is to advance health information technology standards, interoperability, and networking. The other is to promote the "meaningful use" of electronic health records.
