Ronald Fante Best Paper Awards Competition
To encourage staff to publish the results of their work in peer-reviewed literature and broaden awareness of MITRE's technical contributions, MITRE instituted the annual Ronald Fante Best Paper Awards Competition. The Best Paper Awards Committee, headed by the Chief Technology Officer, evaluates papers submitted to the contest for the importance and originality of the work described and selects a winner of the Best Paper Award for that year. Other full-length papers that meet the eligibility criteria receive Incentive Awards; short papers published as communications or letters receive Communication Awards. Eligible papers must describe technical work and have been published in a refereed journal or book during the preceding calendar year. In 2006, the corporation renamed the MITRE Best Paper Awards competition to honor the memory of MITRE Fellow Ronald L. Fante. An internationally known expert on signal processing, Fante devoted significant time to mentoring the engineering staff. He coauthored numerous papers with his colleagues and consistently encouraged other staff members to share their findings through respected publications. He also developed guidelines to help them write papers that would meet the standards of refereed journals. Fante himself won the 2001 Best Paper Award for "A Maximum-Likelihood Beamspace Processor for Improved Search and Track," published in IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, and co-authored with Richard M. Davis. Winners and other submissions that met the competition criteria for technical content are listed below by year. Best Paper Archives Papers for the previous year are posted during the second half of the current year.
Past technical papers are included for historical purposes only. Past papers have not been updated unless noted. Related Information
