Innovation Exchange
In 2008, MITRE launched its Innovation Exchange. Building on the former Technology Symposium, the event gives our researchers and sponsors a chance to get together and discuss the research going on at MITRE. This year the company will begin bringing the event to more customer locations and will feature multidisciplinary teams working on similar customer problems. Says Stephen D. Huffman, MITRE's Chief Technology Officer, "The primary goal of the exchange is to make connections between our principal investigators and the work program managers so they can explore how to apply our research in the customer's environment. By seeing the research, and interacting with the principal investigators, the customers have an opportunity to explore innovative ways of solving their problems." In addition to sponsors and researchers, the event is also open to local university faculty and students, as well as potential MITRE recruits. This provides opportunities to collaborate with outside researchers and bring new talent into the company. While researchers from all three of our FFRDCs participate in the exchange, CAASD inaugurated its own symposium in 2001 to meet the specific needs of the aviation community. The symposium was held at FAA Headquarters, giving more FAA personnel time to view the exhibits. In addition, MITRE recently held mini symposiums in Colorado Springs and Hanscom Air Force Base bringing in the projects that would most interest our sponsors at those sites. Related Information
