ABSTRACT
The type of information needed for operational use by the military is, overall, fairly persistent. The need to efficiently and effectively exchange this information with others is also a consistent need. The information's accuracy and exchange mechanisms have improved from the time of Julius Caesar, but a general has always needed to know and be able to inform his army where the enemy is located. This
paper examines the United States Department of Defense's (DoD) primary methods for creating the messages used for its modern military operations, explores issues with the implemented approach, and provides recommendations for improvement.
