ABSTRACT

From very simple beginnings, the use of Instant Messaging (IM) tools has increased dramatically over the past 10 years. Their use has even propagated into the business environment, where studies claim that at least 70% of enterprises now use IM, with total business-to-business communications projected to reach 50% by 2005. Several reasons abound as to why instant messaging has become so popular, but the fact remains that it has become a significant tool for business communications.
