Aviation Week: MITRE Proposes Surveillance For Large Urban Drone Fleets

Can today's airspace surveillance system cope with flocks of unmanned aircraft at low altitudes over cities? In a future where fleets of drones for law enforcement, package delivery and other missions share the urban sky with air taxis, the answer is no, suggest studies by the MITRE Corp. Now the research organization is proposing a dedicated drone-to-drone surveillance system to enable a future where thousands of small unmanned aircraft systems (SUAS) operate over populated areas.
