MITRE Mourns the Passing of Former CEO Victor DeMarines
The MITRE community celebrates the accomplished life and mourns the loss of former MITRE CEO Victor DeMarines, who passed away this week.
Known to employees as “Vic,” Mr. DeMarines worked at MITRE for 37 years before he was named president and CEO in 1996. After retiring in 2000, he continued serving on our Board of Trustees for another decade, offering his wisdom and perspective.
"As a leader, he was loved by his employees, and he loved them in equal measure," Dr. Jason Providakes, MITRE's president and CEO, said yesterday. "One of his favorite sayings was 'our employees are the reason for our success.' Vic had a deep conviction for MITRE’s purpose and our sponsors' missions."
Before joining MITRE, Mr. DeMarines was an Air Force lieutenant at the Lincoln Project Office at Hanscom Air Force Base. After joining MITRE, he worked in the command and control field in various capacities, with a technical focus on data processing for network and distributed computing. He authored many technical articles and originated patents on local area network techniques.
"In many ways, he was MITRE," Providakes added. "He will be missed."
