Wake Study Key To Boosting Dubai Capacity
Dubai has two projects under way to increase runway capacity. The second, longer-term project is for required navigation performance parallel approach transition (RPAT). This involves an offset arrival until the lead aircraft approaching the left runway is visually acquired, after which the aircraft can transition to the parallel approach to the right runway. RPAT is planned to be operational in March 2016. Serco-DANS is cooperating with MITRE in the U.S. to validate the operational concepts for dependent diagonal approaches and RPAT, using simulations involving Dubai controllers and pilots from Emirates Airline and FlyDubai.
