Will I be restricted from publicizing my participation in the MITRE Challenge?

Not at all. MITRE encourages publicizing your participation as it helps raise awareness of this important national problem.

Will the participants know where they stack among the other challengers?

Yes, we will show the top 10 scores—and the teams’ names—on the MITRE Challenge website.

Will I be compensated for my research investment even if I don’t win?

No, only the winner of the Challenge will receive any money as a result of participation.

Can MITRE alter my work without permission?

No.

What rights will I retain to my work?

All intellectual property rights remain with participants. Participants are required to sign a Participation Agreement as part of their application, which further discusses this topic.

Who should participate?

MITRE has designed the IoT Challenge to attract a broad range of participants. We hope to draw ideas and solutions from industry, academia, individual developers, and anyone interested in solving this critical problem. The goal is to foster creativity from many perspectives.

Where does the prize money come from?

The MITRE Corporation is funding the Challenge prize from non-governmental funds received through technology transfer activities.

How will the prize money be awarded?

The prize package for the MITRE IoT Challenge is $50,000. The scoring rubric will be released after participants complete registration and are officially accepted into the Challenge.

Please join us at our 3rd Annual MITRE FFRDC Research Program Strategy Workshop on 15 November on the MITRE campus in McLean, VA. The purpose of the workshop is to stimulate dialog between the Naval R&D Establishment CTOs, their S&T leads and stakeholders (government representatives only; no contractors), and our MITRE Research Program Innovation Area Leaders. At the workshop, we will discuss MITRE’s research agenda and gather feedback to help shape it to address key Navy and Marine Corps S&T priorities.

From 9:45-11:45, each MITRE Innovation Area Leader will provide a short briefing on their emerging FY19 innovation area strategy with a focus on the following technical areas of interest to the Navy and USMC.

  • Electronic Warfare
  • Long Range Remote Sensing
  • Autonomy and Manned-Unmanned Teaming

Following the break, we will have a working lunch session from 11:45-12:45. During this time, we will have a roundtable discussion asking for feedback. Each government sponsor attending will have a few minutes to summarize what he/she heard or did not hear that is most relevant to their area of responsibility. This feedback will identify research and development needs and priorities for MITRE, as well as offer potential collaboration opportunities for follow-up. After the working lunch and roundtable feedback session, there will be time for individual discussions with the MITRE Innovation Area Leaders.
