GPS Hall of Fame Honors MITRE Fellow Emeritus John BetzMay 2019
John Betz, MITRE Fellow Emeritus, was selected to the U.S.A.F.’s GPS Hall of Fame. The award honors the pioneers behind the Global Positioning System.
Betz, who joined MITRE in 1989, has been honored previously by the Institute of Navigation, the IEEE, and the International Association of Institutes of Navigation, among other organizations, for his influence on the development of satellite navigation.
Betz's work has addressed both civil and military aspects of GPS, along with influencing all the world’s satellite navigation systems. The Air Force originally developed GPS and still is responsible for its development and operation.
“I think that GPS is the ultimate 'team sport,' and I’m glad to be part of the MITRE team,” Betz said.
