NEC Corporation and Cyber Defense Institute have announced the launch of MITRE Engage in a Box™ training in Japan, based on the MITRE Engage™ framework. The program is designed to help cybersecurity professionals develop practical adversary engagement skills through a combination of classroom instruction, tabletop exercises, and hands-on training in a controlled virtual environment.
According to NEC, the offering has been adapted for the Japanese market by combining MITRE’s Engage framework with the organizations’ expertise supporting cybersecurity for government and critical infrastructure organizations in Japan. The full announcement is available in Japanese below.
MITRE Engage provides a framework for planning and discussing adversary engagement within an organization’s own environment. It helps defenders better understand adversary behavior and apply techniques—including deception—to observe, influence, and learn from malicious activity while remaining within the organization’s defensive boundaries. Engage in a Box translates those concepts into practical, experiential training that helps participants build technical knowledge alongside operational judgment.
As part of NEC’s announcement, MITRE Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Charles Clancy highlighted the value of bringing MITRE’s research into practical application:
