Making Space Vibrant and Resilient: The Critical Link Between Economic and National Security

Shaping the Future of Space Through Multidisciplinary Collaboration and Innovation

New space-faring nations and commercial entities enter the fray, and low Earth orbit becomes increasingly crowded and competitive. Despite this rapid expansion, international norms, policies, and regulations for space activities remain underdeveloped, while cyber threats to space systems continue to evolve.

MITRE is at the forefront of addressing these challenges on the global stage. Through our public-private partnerships, consortia, and federally funded R&D centers, we are driving the international adoption of norms, fostering cooperation in data sharing, performing space economic analysis, and advancing the development of standards for coordinated debris management and launch. Our approach goes beyond immediate technical solutions—we apply multidisciplinary R&D, geopolitical, and economic factors that reveal new insights and provide an enhanced understanding of space capability gaps. Working closely with international partners, we can establish frameworks for orbit allocation, ensuring a stable space economy and a collaborative, sustainable future in space.
