McLean, Va., and Bedford, Mass., October 23, 2018—The MITRE Corporation's Board of Trustees elected board member Dr. Donald Kerr to serve as chairman and board member Mr. Mike Rogers to serve as vice chairman. Rogers is a national security expert and a former U.S. Representative from Michigan. MITRE also announced the election of three new members to the board: Lance Collins, Yvette Meléndez and Adalio T. Sanchez.

"The Board of Trustees leadership by Dr. Kerr and Mr. Rogers brings a strong understanding and strategic view of both the public and private sectors, which is critical to our mission to serve the public interest across federal, state, and local governments, as well as industry and academia," said Jason Providakes, MITRE president and CEO. "I want to sincerely thank Dr. John Hamre, who retired from the Board of Trustees as Chairman, for his leadership, knowledge, and experience on national security issues and his championship of MITRE and its capabilities to solve problems to make the world safer over these many years."

Chairman Kerr served as Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence and also serves as director of Areté Associates, Michael Baker International LLC, and Orbis Operations LLC.  He succeeds Dr. John Hamre, a former U.S. deputy defense secretary and president of the Center for Strategic and International Studies.

"We are honored to welcome Dr. Collins, Ms. Meléndez, and Mr. Sanchez—leaders in their respective areas of academia, healthcare, and technology—to MITRE’s Board of Trustees," said Providakes. "We look forward to their contributions to advising MITRE's mission-critical work to solve problems for a safer world through our federally funded research and development centers, public-private partnerships, and other areas of strategic focus."

Dr. Collins is the Joseph Silbert Dean of Engineering at Cornell University, recognized for creating opportunities and access for diverse communities. Ms. Meléndez, a former healthcare policy executive, has more than 30 years of experience leading large state government agencies, educational institutions, and non-profit organizations. Mr. Sanchez is an industry leader in information technology hardware, software, and semiconductor markets, and an expert in data center, cloud, and digital technologies.
