MITRE Director Sam Visner Named Washingtonian Tech Titan
McLean, Va., October 9, 2018—The MITRE Corporation's Samuel Visner, a cybersecurity expert, has been named to Washingtonian's Tech Titan list for 2018. Each year, the magazine recognizes "the most influential and interesting people in the local tech scene, from start-up founders to government officials to venture capitalists." This year, Washingtonian's list includes executives from Uber, Apple, Amazon, Facebook, Google, and Microsoft. Visner is director of the National Cybersecurity Federally Funded Research and Development Center (NCF), sponsored by the National Institute of Standards and Technology's (NIST) National Cybersecurity Center of Excellence (NCCoE).
Visner was selected for his leadership of "the FFRDC [which] is creating a set of cybersecurity practices for an industry desperate for such standards," according to the award citation. Visner oversees efforts to bring together experts from industry, government, and academia to demonstrate integrated cybersecurity solutions that are cost-effective, repeatable, and scalable. The FFRDC is the first of its kind dedicated to cybersecurity.
"It's honor to receive this recognition of the NCF," said Visner. "Every day, our team strives to help businesses and our nation secure our critical data and infrastructures by fostering public-private collaborations to identify and solve today's real-world cybersecurity threats. I am excited that the work of NCF is being recognized by a prestigious group like Washingtonian, even as I am thrilled that our work is making a difference for people in industries throughout the United States."
"I'm delighted to see Sam Visner honored as a 'Tech Titan' by Washingtonian," said Bill LaPlante, senior vice president of MITRE's national security sector. "His leadership in creating a set of standard cybersecurity practices for the industry and forging ahead in addressing our nation’s most critical cyber challenges, is inspiring and demonstrates the very best of MITRE. I couldn’t be more pleased for this recognition of Sam’s innovative efforts."
