MITRE Names David Powner Director of Strategic Engagement and Partnerships
McLean, Va., and Bedford, Mass., July 26, 2018—The MITRE Corporation has appointed David Powner Director of Strategic Engagement and Partnerships. In this new role, Powner will enhance strategic engagement and partnership relationships with stakeholders in government, the private sector, and academia.
Powner, who will join MITRE in late August, currently serves as the Director of Information Technology Management Issues at the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) and has 25 years of experience in the public and private sectors. At MITRE, he will contribute his expertise and leadership to promote new levels of impact across the federal, state, and municipal space.

During his GAO tenure, Powner testified before Congress as an expert witness more than 100 times. Among his many notable achievements, Powner played a key role in the implementation of the Federal Information Technology Acquisition Reform Act (FITARA), led the creation of the FITARA Scorecard, and contributed his expertise and insights to the development of the Modernization Government Technology Act .
Powner holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Denver and attended the Senior Executive Fellows Program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
