Dynamic Resource Integration and Visualization Environment (DRIVE)
Dynamic Resource Integration and Visualization Environment (DRIVE) is a software development package which provides a standalone (and easily distributable), and extensible set of tools to federate, orchestrate, and distribute computational models to facilitate dynamic execution and integration. DRIVE gives the ability for a user to add any computational model and execute it in sequence with other models also run with DRIVE.
Beyond simple model execution, DRIVE is specifically designed to enable the exploration of complex adaptive systems by rapidly federating diverse computational tools into cohesive, executable workflows. By lowering the technical barriers to integration, DRIVE allows decision-makers to quickly assemble heterogeneous models—representing interacting subsystems, feedback mechanisms, and evolving dynamics—into unified exploratory environments. This capability supports iterative experimentation, scenario analysis, and adaptive strategy evaluation in domains where system behavior emerges from interconnected components.
DRIVE is also built to allow a user to make model updates and environment additions easier such that runs can be saved, run, and their outputs easily compared to one another. It accomplishes this by generalizing computational models as a DRIVE object each with input, output, and runtime requirements. Each runtime type, be it a C binary, Python script, or GAMS executable has a DRIVE internal model object which each abstract away execution idiosyncrasies from the user enabling "plug-and-play" behavior where correct execution has been implemented right once. DRIVE is also built to allow for the modular configuration of how DRIVE efficiently schedules and sequences the models themselves enabling a sequence of models to be run with Generalized Hybrid Optimization. Due to this execution modularity, DRIVE will also provide the capability of mapping federated and distributed models to existing and vetted decision ontologies. This final functionality is built, like the other features, to be extensible for the needs of those using DRIVE and therefore will allow users to (with minimal additional effort) integrate their own interfaces and data processes to work seamlessly with DRIVE executions.
