Brian Abrahamson

Senior Vice President, Chief Operating Officer

Brian Abrahamson is senior vice president and chief operating officer at MITRE. As COO, he leads the enterprise functions that help MITRE’s people deliver mission impact with speed, clarity, and accountability. His portfolio includes corporate strategy, government relations, enterprise communications, global security, corporate real estate, mission computing, and information technology.

Abrahamson works across MITRE to make operational excellence a core advantage for the company — stewarding an enterprise-wide operating model focused on simplifying how work gets done, strengthening end-to-end operations, and ensuring teams have clear roles, modern tools, efficient processes, and accountable support. His focus is simple: enable MITRE’s people to spend more time on the work that matters. This includes the six federally funded research and development centers MITRE operates for government sponsors, as well as MITRE’s independent research program.

Abrahamson joined MITRE from Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and Battelle, where he served as associate laboratory director and chief digital officer. At PNNL, he led operational improvements through digital transformation and oversaw communications and public affairs, information technology, research computing, and enterprise-wide cybersecurity. His approach streamlined the research experience, strengthened enterprise services, and elevated the visibility of PNNL’s mission impact. At Battelle, he was a catalyst in the formation of a common operating model spanning the Battelle-affiliated national labs, and led the digital practice across those entities.

Prior to PNNL, Abrahamson led enterprise technology for Pacific Gas and Electric Company, one of the nation’s largest investor-owned utilities. He also spent more than a decade at Accenture, partnering with business and technology leaders at Fortune 250 companies to improve operations and deliver digital transformation. A nationally recognized leader in digital transformation, Abrahamson was named to CIO magazine’s CIO Hall of Fame, Class of 2025.

Abrahamson holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science from Gonzaga University.
