Dr. Jason Providakes

Dr. Jason Providakes is the president and chief executive officer of The MITRE Corporation. In this role, Dr. Providakes leads the organization's strategy and business operations to meet the government's evolving needs. He brings more than 35 years of technical and leadership experience to MITRE and the federally funded research and development centers (FFRDCs) MITRE operates for United States government sponsors.

He previously served as senior vice president and general manager of MITRE’s Center for Connected Government (CCG). With a strong enterprise perspective and broad experience across MITRE, Dr. Providakes oversaw CCG's federal civilian strategy and customer engagements. The FFRDCs within CCG include:

  • The Center for Enterprise Modernization, sponsored by the Department of the Treasury and the Internal Revenue Service and co-sponsored by the Department of Veterans Affairs;
  • Homeland Security Systems Engineering and Development Institute (HSSEDI™), sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security;
  • Judiciary Engineering and Modernization Center, sponsored by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts; and
  • CMS Alliance to Modernize Healthcare, sponsored by the Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.

From 2009 through 2011, Dr. Providakes served as the director of the HSSEDI concurrent with his role as the general manager of CCG. As director, he provided strategic direction and leadership for MITRE's homeland security portfolio.

Previously, Dr. Providakes was executive director for the Joint and Defense-Wide Systems Division of MITRE's Command and Control Center, a division of our Department of Defense FFRDC. He supported the DoD chief information officer to ensure programs involving strategic and theater systems benefited from an enterprise engineering approach. He has also served as chief engineer for MITRE's Washington Command, Control, and Communications Center and as executive director for MITRE's Army Systems & Technology Division, where he was central to the Army's "digitize the battlefield" transformation.

Dr. Providakes' career is rooted in scientific research in support of national security. He has held numerous leadership roles for a range of military service and civilian government agency customers. He has served as a member of the Army Science Board and has participated in several studies of the National Academy of Sciences.

An optical and remote sensing technical expert, Dr. Providakes has taught, performed research, and published extensively on radar backscatter of the Earth's ionosphere. He holds his doctorate from Cornell University, as well as master's and bachelor’s degrees in electrical engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
