MITRE Senior Visiting Fellow; Entrepreneur; Founding team member, Google X; Executive, Yahoo
Entrepreneur Tom Chi has worked in a wide range of roles, from astrophysical researcher to Fortune 500 consultant and corporate executive developing hardware/software products and services. As a senior visiting fellow for The MITRE Corporation, Chi will advise MITRE on rapid prototyping and scalable innovation approaches to mission areas ranging from geospatial machine learning to environmental data analytics.
He played a significant role in developing global digital products/services including Microsoft Outlook and Yahoo Search, and has scaled new projects from conception to significance. As a founding team member of Yahoo Answers, he helped to scale the service 0 to 90 million users.
Chi has pioneered and practices a unique approach to rapid prototyping, visioning, and leadership that can jumpstart innovative ideas and move large organizations at unprecedented speeds. He has brought these approaches to more than a dozen industry-leading companies. Chi recently served as head of product experience at Google X, contributing breakthrough technology to innovations that include Google Glass and Google’s autonomous vehicles.
He currently works with social and environmental entrepreneurs around the globe in his current focus on human development issues. Chi is rebooting the fundamental frameworks of entrepreneurship itself, and leads workshops and trainings for select organizations to promote these concepts.
Chi holds both a bachelor’s and master's degree in electrical engineering from Cornell University.
