MITRE Awarded DCSA’s 2024 Jack Donnelly Award for Excellence in Counterintelligence

The U.S. Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency (DCSA) visited MITRE this week to present the 2024 Jack Donnelly Award for Excellence in Counterintelligence, recognizing MITRE for exceptional leadership and performance in protecting classified and sensitive U.S. technologies.

During the visit, DCSA leaders met with Mark Peters, MITRE’s president and chief executive officer; Brian Abrahamson, senior vice president and chief operating officer; and Stephen Kirin, vice president of Enterprise Operations and chief security officer, to formally honor MITRE for its exemplary counterintelligence program and strong culture of security. Their visit highlights the significance of this award, one of the highest distinctions DCSA presents to cleared partners.

Named for former DCSA Director Jack Donnelly, a champion of counterintelligence excellence, the award recognizes cleared organizations that demonstrate superior ability to deter, detect, and disrupt foreign intelligence threats. Out of more than 12,000 cleared defense organizations, only four receive this recognition each year.

“This award reflects MITRE’s unwavering commitment to protecting the nation’s most sensitive information and technologies,” said Peters. “Our counterintelligence and security teams, working in close collaboration with staff across the enterprise, demonstrate operational excellence every day. Their vigilance helps safeguard the innovations and national capabilities that are essential to U.S. security.”

This recognition marks MITRE’s second DCSA Excellence in Counterintelligence Award in recent years, following a previous win in 2022. MITRE’s rigorous counterintelligence posture, supported by a culture of vigilance, robust processes, and enterprise-wide operational excellence, ensures secure delivery of advanced capabilities to the Department of War and other U.S. government agencies.

MITRE was honored to welcome the following DCSA representatives for the presentation:

  • Mr. Andrew Lochli, Associate Director, CI and Insider Threat, DCSA
  • Mr. Larry Vincent, Associate Director, Field Operations, DCSA
  • Mr. Justin Walsh, Regional Director, Mid-Atlantic Region, DCSA
  • Ms. Allison Carpenter, Deputy Associate Director, Office of CI

This award reaffirms MITRE’s long-standing commitment to national security and its leadership in protecting the technologies that safeguard the nation.
