During a press conference at the Foreign Correspondents Club in Toyko, retired Rear Admiral Mike Studeman, now a MITRE National Security Fellow, discussed how Asian allies are dealing with microaggressions by the People's Republic of China. In describing the new world order, Studeman said, “I will tell you that it's in no small part due to Chinese predatory policies and not operating as a responsible actor in the global system. When one country of that size becomes zero-sum and mercantilist, then it has very strong repercussions for many other countries that are interdependent with that one country. We will end up having to deal with the realities that Chinese policies will not substantially change, but certainly the world is changing in response to those [policies]." Studeman added that there would be fragmentation into different blocks of people and how they trade.
