Generative AI tools like ChatGPT offer potentially transformative capabilities, but organizations like MITRE that deal with sensitive missions can only use them with publicly available information. MITRE partnered with Microsoft in 2023 to gain access to GPT-4 while protecting sensitive data – and received a CIO100 award for the effort.
“We saw an early need not only to understand what the capabilities were, but also where some of the risks were,” said Cedric Sims, MITRE senior vice president, during a recent interview with Federal News Network. “One of the best ways to do that is to experiment and understand the technology more holistically.”
