Technology Review: MIT’s First Divorce

65 years ago, MITRE was created to run the Semi-Automated Ground Environment (SAGE), the first missile defense system, MIT Technology Review writes. But mysteriously, the origin of MITRE's name has never been fully explained. “Precisely where this name came from is unclear. A search through hundreds of archival documents didn’t turn up a single previous reference,” according to the article.
