MITRE Announces Board of Trustees Retirements

McLean, Va., May 30, 2025—MITRE's Board of Trustees announced the upcoming retirements of three trustees. George Halvorson and Paul Kaminski, Ph.D., will retire from the Board effective June 6. Cathy Minehan will retire on July 10.

George Halvorson

Halvorson joined MITRE's Board in 2014. His long tenure as a healthcare executive, culminating at Kaiser Permanente, where he served as CEO and chairman from 2002 to 2014, provided a strong background for guidance and thought in MITRE's service to its public sector sponsors. Halvorson previously chaired MITRE's Public Sector Advisory Committee and co-chaired the Health Advisory Council.

"George's guidance has been instrumental to MITRE's proud service as FFRDC operator for HHS and CMS," said Mark Peters, Ph.D., MITRE president and CEO. "We're grateful for George's commitment and counsel over his many years of service on our Board."

Paul Kaminski

Kaminski joined MITRE's Board in 2017. His career spans decades of private industry and government service, including serving as Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition and Technology from 1994 to1997. He also served as a member of the President's Intelligence Advisory Board and two non-consecutive terms as chairman of the Defense Science Board.

"Given his decades-long dedication to national security, Paul's unequivocal expertise has proven invaluable in our work with the Department of Defense," said Peters. "We will continue to draw on Paul's insights as MITRE remains steadfast in addressing our nation's most pressing challenges."

Cathy Minehan

Minehan first joined MITRE's Board in 2009, and, after a break in service, rejoined in 2016. She has held several executive roles throughout her career, including president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston from 1994 to 2007 and dean of the School of Management of Simmons College. Minehan also served as chair of Massachusetts General Hospital, chair of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and as a board member of VISA, Becton Dickinson, and Bright Horizons.

Peters said, "We have been so fortunate to have Cathy serve on our Board. Her leadership and financial mastery have been instrumental to MITRE's support to our public sector sponsors. As chair of our Audit Committee, we are deeply appreciative of her commitment to ensure MITRE remains a key national resource."
