MITRE Names Christopher Land Senior Vice President, General Counsel, and Secretary to MITRE’s Board of Trustees
McLean, Va., & Bedford, Mass., Feb. 23, 2026 – MITRE has named Christopher Land senior vice president, general counsel, and secretary to the MITRE Board of Trustees. He will oversee enterprise-wide legal, regulatory, and compliance issues and organizational risk management and support the MITRE Board of Trustees.

As general counsel, Land will oversee an in-house legal team that advises MITRE’s leadership and employees on legal matters, including cybersecurity issues, contracting, international and global presence, intellectual property, employment matters, healthcare law, and national security issues.

Land most recently served as general counsel of Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in support of its national security mission. In that role, he oversaw litigation, employment matters, regulatory compliance, intellectual property, and ethical conduct.
Prior to LLNL, Land was general counsel and vice president for legal affairs at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, where he served as the primary legal advisor to the president and director, as well as legal counsel to the board of directors on all legal, compliance, litigation, employment, national security, and governance issues.
