As the new Biden transportation team begins shaping its policies, former Transportation Secretary Rodney Slater and MITRE VP Gregg Leone outline their priorities to bring global aviation to the next level of safety and resilience. They recommend creating a COVID “health passport” for air travelers, closing the aviation safety gap between countries to lift safety standards for all, and countering accelerating cyber threats.
They go into more detail in their recently published white paper where they share the central message that new challenges, from cyber risks to the global pandemic, pose significant threats to the global aviation system, and that MITRE's Center for Advanced Aviation System Development (CAASD) believes the proper forum to lead the world on improving aviation safety and resilience is the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
