JASON: U.S. Research Should Remain Open Despite Threat of Improper Foreign Influence
A new report from the independent scientific advisory group JASON finds that the threat of improper foreign influence on U.S. scientific work from countries like China is real and growing. However, the U.S. government should address the situation in ways that preserve the country’s ability to attract top international talent.
“The benefits of openness in research and of the inclusion of talented foreign researchers dictate against measures that would wall off particular areas of fundamental research,” states the report, which was sponsored by the National Science Foundation.
MITRE provides the management support and assistance required to execute the JASON program, which allows JASON to perform its mission to contribute to national security and public benefit by working on problems of importance to the United States government.
