MITRE’s Zero Trust Transceiver (ZTX) offers a novel architecture that delivers improved cyber resiliency across critical infrastructure, cyber-physical systems, and high-importance business systems.
Zero Trust Transceiver (ZTX)
The Zero Trust Transceiver (ZTX) represents a significant advancement in zero trust architecture designed for operational technology and embedded systems. Focused on securing high-integrity business systems and cyber physical systems to prevent cyber attacks, ZTX balances three crucial concerns: cyber risk, safety risk, and mission or business case risk.
Leveraging its novel architecture, ZTX incorporates new concepts to significantly improve cyber resiliency for users:
- Context-Aware Policies: ZTX introduces context-aware policies that balance cyber risk with safety and mission risks, addressing a critical gap in existing solutions.
- Real-Time Speed: ZTX can process data at true real-time speeds, assuring system responsiveness and reliability.
- Layer 7 Data Analysis: In a significant advancement, ZTX analyzes data at the application layer (Layer 7 of the Open Systems Interconnection model), allowing for more effective threat detection.
- Isolation from Host Systems: The hardware implementation ensures that even if the host system is compromised, ZTX will continue to operate independently, maintaining system integrity and availability.
- Feedback Loop for Policy Adaptation: The ZTX architecture includes a robust feedback loop for continuous monitoring and policy adaptation, ensuring that security measures evolve with emerging threats.
Currently in the developmental prototype stage, the ZTX technology includes software and hardware, as well as project documentation:
- Documentation: Procedural documents that outline the architecture and the implementation process.
- Software: Tools for policy creation, enforcement, and monitoring, facilitating the integration of ZTX into existing systems.
- Hardware: Policy enforcement points designed to operate at real-time speeds, with minimal latency and high reliability.
