SMS also provides methods to develop and maintain a positive safety culture.

SMS Introduction
A 1-day course for mid-level managers making business decisions that influence safety.
SMS Overview
This 2-day course is designed for front-line staff interfacing with SMS. It offers an abbreviated version of the material taught in our SMS Principles course.
Emphasis is given to safety risk management, and students work an exercise in proactive change management risk assessment, allowing them to understand how to apply the concept prior to future operational changes. Safety assurance, human error, and positive safety culture elements are also covered in depth.
SMS Principles
This class fully trains safety professionals in the fundamentals of SMS theory and practice, giving them the skills to lead SMS implementation at their own organization.
This course presents the “four pillars of SMS”—safety policy, safety risk management, safety assurance, and safety promotion. It also covers human and organizational factors, organizational responsibilities, and SMS training and implementation.
In addition to presenting the current global industry leading views on SMS practices, MITRE instructors offer the insights they have gained from working with numerous service provider SMS implementations. The students also learn by working through specially designed class exercises that put the SMS concepts into practice.

Advanced SMS is a follow-on course for students who have previously attended MITRE’s SMS Principles course or a similar course from another recognized organization. SMS Audit and Evaluation
How do you know if your SMS is effective? Find out how in this class.
Participants will learn the difference between auditing for compliance and evaluating for effectiveness. Students will also learn the roles and techniques used by auditors before, during, and after the evaluation.
