The concept of the digital twin was first introduced in 2002, and since then, a variety of industries have used digital twins to monitor and control their systems, optimize their processes, make data-driven predictions or decisions in real time, or inform the design of new products, services, and business models. The benefits of employing digital twins become especially pronounced when dealing with large, complex systems or systems of systems.
