Dr. Sybil Russell M.D., a physician-scientist, has made significant contributions in hospital, academic, and research environments. At MITRE, she serves as a technical fellow in biomedical sciences.   

Russell, who joined MITRE in 2015, brings expertise in health innovation technology, public health, and clinical quality and safety from MITRE’s Baltimore site. In addition to her work at MITRE, Russell is a practicing pediatric hospitalist physician at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Kennedy Krieger Institute. 

Since 2016 Russell has served as a Lead within MITRE’s Innovation Program. She’s overseen a wide range of our independent research programs in healthcare and biotechnology. Before joining MITRE, she served as a medical director at Johns Hopkins and member of the faculty at the Universities of Florida and Hawaii. 

She holds bachelor's degrees from Tulane University in biology and political science, a Doctor of Medicine from Emory University, and Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins. She completed her pediatric residency at UC San Diego. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her three children, running, hiking, and paddleboarding.
