Summaries of three presidential transition workshops at the 2024 FedID Conference
2024 FedID Workshop Summaries
What’s the issue? Identity management is an important concern for the federal government, influencing a wide range of areas, from national security to the delivery of public services. Ensuring individuals are accurately identified and their personal information is securely managed is fundamental to the effective functioning of government operations. Reliable identity management systems help prevent fraud, protect sensitive information, and maintain the integrity of both digital and physical interactions.
As we advance further into the digital age, the challenges associated with identity verification and protection are becoming increasingly nuanced. Cyber threats, data breaches, and identity theft pose significant risks to individuals and the nation as a whole. Effective identity management is essential for safeguarding national interests, ensuring the efficient delivery of government services, and maintaining public trust.
What did we do? FedID, the federal government’s annual identity conference, held three concurrent workshops at the 2024 conference. Attendees (federal government, industry, and academia) discussed three important identity aspects and what the federal government would need to prioritize during the next administration. Workshop moderators summarized these discussions, and MITRE published them on behalf of the FedID community:
- Interoperable Digital Identities
- Overcoming Identity Threats
- Privacy, Security, and the Many Forms of Bias
