5G C-Band Signal Models

5G C-Band Signal Models are a suite of I/Q data at various radio frequencies in the 3.7 GHz to 3.98 GHz band. They can be used in flight line and bench test sets to verify if aircraft radar altimeter systems would be affected by 5G C-Band cellular signals.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has warned that 5G technology could interfere with aircraft altimeters resulting in a loss of situational awareness for the flight crews and flight control logic on civil aircraft, including commercial airliners. MITRE’s 5G C-Band Signal Model test suite scenarios have been validated through operational testing to sufficiently represent a realistic, yet stressful 5G radio frequency environment. These signal models can be used to test existing, modified, and new aircraft radar altimeter installations to help determine their interference tolerance, improving aviation safety.

MITRE is licensing its 5G mid-band cellular signal I/Q data at 3.75 GHz, 3.85 GHz center channel frequencies for 100 MB bandwidth, and 3.94 GHz for 80 MB bandwidth.
