Infrastructure and Networking Innovation Center
Optimizing networks for security and resilience.
The Infrastructure and Networking Innovation Center delivers inventive computing and network infrastructure capabilities to enable affordable and effective outcomes in an ever-changing and contested environment.
With expertise in software-defined computing, enterprise and cellular networking, and service management, we work to improve resilience and operational effectiveness with our sponsors and partners.
Our Capabilities
Cloud and Services Engineering
Cloud engineering leverages the power and economics of cloud resources to build services that can be deployed quickly and scaled on the fly. This capability solves mission challenges through the blending of cloud computing models with private, public, hybrid, and multi-clouds to deliver services that offer flexible resources and economies of scale. We apply Agile and DevSecOps practices to build resilient and efficient services using digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, automation, and orchestration.
Network Modeling, Analytics & Control
Intelligent Mission Aware Networking
Command, control, and communication (C3) systems are a core enabler of military and national security capabilities. C3 systems transport the mission-critical information necessary for peacetime deterrence and to plan, coordinate, and conduct military operations. MITRE works with the Department of Defense and other agencies on improving C3 systems resiliency, optimizing performance, improving security, and simplifying management. The Intelligent Mission Aware Networking technical area in MITRE Labs incorporates enhanced telemetry for better situational awareness of distributed network infrastructure, developing mission-aware analytics using traditional and non-traditional data sources, and building resilient capabilities for C3 in austere environments. These capabilities are also broadly useful in civilian contexts.
Enterprise Networking
Our teams work with government sponsors across both the civilian (such as aviation and healthcare) and national security domains to ensure enterprise networks remain resilient in the face of adversarial and environmental threats. We use advanced enterprise networking technologies, including software-defined networking, cloud and containers networking, network function virtualization, and zero trust among others, that aim to achieve mission objectives faster with improved efficiency and accuracy.
5G/xG
MITRE’s 5G/xG Technical Capability Area (TCA) applies commercial cellular communications technologies to accelerate the development and delivery of secure and resilient solutions and capabilities for our sponsors. This TCA focuses on spectrum sharing for a wide range of deployments and components of 5G architecture: radio access network, mobile core, and edge computing. We also identify gaps in the 5G/xG innovation ecosystem, develop solutions to address these gaps, and help our sponsors adopt the right solutions for their missions.
