Sandboxes encourage creativity, providing space to experiment, build, and sometimes destroy. Trade sand for data and the same rules apply to digital sandboxes. They’re secure environments where practitioners can test and refine big ideas.
No pressure. No risk.
As leaders of federal research and development centers, innovation is built into our everyday. We developed the Federal AI Sandbox to share our approach. It’s a collaborative place where government and industry can tap high-powered computing for a wide range of complex, mission-critical challenges.
The Sandbox runs on an NVIDIA DGX H100 SuperPOD™ equipped with 248 NVIDIA H100 GPUs. In other words, it’s very fast and powerful.
It’s our premier tool for helping government turn bold ideas into operational reality.
Sandbox in action: Improving high-resolution weather modeling and hazard planning; simplifying government systems for benefits and services; helping cyber experts defend critical infrastructure.
A meaningful homage: We named the supercomputer, located in Ashburn, Va., “Judy” in honor of computer science and engineering trailblazer Judy Clapp.
Bottom line: "MITRE’s Federal AI Sandbox enables our government sponsors to incubate their use cases, determine mission value and accelerate their solutions into operation," says Beth Meinert, senior vice president of MITRE’s Public Sector.

BEYOND & BARRIERS
Acquisition on a War Footing
"We must move from a culture that rewards process over outcomes to one that is singularly focused on speed and execution,” said the Honorable Michael Duffey, Under Secretary of War for Acquisition and Sustainment, at the Beyond Barriers wartime acquisition summit hosted at our McLean, Va. headquarters earlier this week.
The two-day event drew leaders from across the defense ecosystem to tackle one of the most urgent challenges facing national security: how to buy, deliver, and sustain military capabilities at speed. Duffey was among numerous senior and expert speakers calling for bold action and “intelligent risk taking.”
Why it matters: To ensure a technological edge for our military, we must clear the way for innovation.
Why MITRE? We’re helping lead the shift — convening stakeholders, reducing friction, and accelerating the path for promising capabilities to reach the warfighter faster.
AI FOR PUBLIC & GOOD
CIO 100 Recognizes Federal AI Sandbox
Advancing AI for national impact is a top priority at MITRE. Doing it securely and at scale is essential. We developed the Federal AI Sandbox as a platform to empower our government partners, enabling them to harness advanced computing to solve hard problems. And it’s making a difference.
Our Sandbox innovation earned MITRE a CIO 100 award, which honors innovative organizations that use technology to deliver business value.

Discussing the Next Decade of AI at NVIDIA GTC
At NVIDIA’s premier conference in San Jose, Calif. last month, Meinert, senior vice president of MITRE’s Public Sector, discussed our Sandbox and offered insights on the future of AI in the public sector.
On the panel, she was joined by Nako Sung (NAVER Cloud), Ashiq Khan (SoftBank Group Corp.), Anders Ynnerman (Sferical AI), and NVIDIA’s Charlie Boyle, who together delivered a dynamic, global perspective on the next decade of AI.

ATT&CKCon 7.0 is Set
The countdown is on for our unique, once-a-year conference, ATT&CKCon, that brings hardworking cyber practitioners out from behind their screens to share the latest in threat-informed defense. Mark your calendars for October 27 – 28 and explore sponsorship opportunities here.
Collaboration drives innovation: For our visual learners, here’s a look at last year’s event.
WHAT’S NEW
MITRE Forms ATT&CK Advisory Council
The community spoke and we listened. We’ve launched an advisory council dedicated to help guide the MITRE ATT&CK® framework into the future. Members, from Google, Microsoft, Crowdstrike and more, advise MITRE on long-term strategy, content and roadmap development, methodology and quality standards, community engagement and transparency, and program sustainability.
Widening our aperture: The Council will also identify emerging risks, opportunities, and trends across the cybersecurity landscape.
CYBERSECURITY IMPACT
The Global Gold Standard for Real-World Cybersecurity Testing
For cybersecurity companies looking to understand how their products perform in the face of actual adversaries, ATT&CK Evaluations is the ultimate test.
Each round, the Evals team chooses a particularly challenging threat actor and uses ATT&CK to analyze their distinct intrusion techniques. ATT&CK is our globally recognized knowledge base of known adversary behaviors. The rigorous evaluations show how effectively industry’s cybersecurity products detect and respond to real-world breaches.
In short: It’s the gold standard for real-world security testing.
