MITRE Receives Second Pinnacle Award in Massachusetts ECO Awards Program

April 2016

MITRE was one of 63 organizations to receive a Pinnacle Award in the sixth annual Massachusetts Excellence in Commuter Options (ECO) Awards. The award winners were honored on Tuesday, March 22, at an event in Boston's Fenway Park.

This is MITRE's second consecutive Pinnacle Award; the company was also honored last year.

Organizations may receive ECO Awards at three levels: Pacesetter level, Leadership level, and Pinnacle level. The latter recognizes Massachusetts companies that are leading the way in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and traffic congestion by encouraging employees to use alternative forms of transportation.

MITRE was recognized for its many environmentally friendly programs and options for alternative commuting, including mobile worker programs; on-campus electric vehicle charging; preferential parking for carpoolers, and shuttle services between MITRE's campus and the Alewife MBTA station. MITRE's Commuter Benefits program also offers a $30 subsidy and a pre-tax savings advantage for commuting costs

"MITRE is committed to operating sustainably and to helping employees do the same," said Carole Horne, director of Corporate Real Estate and Facility Operations. "Receiving the Pinnacle Award for the second year in a row is an indication that we are making progress in energy efficiency while maximizing the health and productivity of our workplace."

The ECO awards are presented by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, MassRIDES, and MassCommute in recognition of the ways in which Massachusetts employers encourage employees to use green and sustainable transportation options. To be eligible, Massachusetts employers must be MassRIDES Employer Partners and complete a questionnaire detailing the sustainable commuting options they offer.
