U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan Visits MITRE Corporation R&D Labs
McLean, Va., and Bedford, Mass., August 20, 2018—The MITRE Corporation hosted U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan (NH) today at its Bedford, Mass., research and development laboratories. The Senator and staff toured the Border Protection and Transportation Safety & Security labs and discussed the ongoing research in safety data-sharing programs in air and surface transportation and the opioid crisis.
"We welcome Sen. Hassan and appreciate her commitment to strengthening homeland security, making our transportation networks safer, and combatting the opioid crisis," said MITRE Chief Operating Officer Peter Sherlock. "Today's tour of MITRE's Border Protection and Transportation Safety & Security labs, as well as meeting with local New Hampshire-based employees, highlight the unique role of federally funded research and development centers in solving the nation's biggest problems—from using advanced analytics to combat the opioid crisis to studying cybersecurity adversary behavior."
"MITRE is doing critical work in research and development to tackle some of our country's most pressing challenges and to keep Granite Staters and other Americans safe," Senator Hassan said. "I am focused on working with members of both parties to support the important work of MITRE, including fighting to ensure that those on the front lines of the deadly opioid epidemic have what they need to support people struggling with addiction and bolstering our nation's cybersecurity in the face of ever-evolving threats. I look forward to continue partnering to address these challenges, and I’ll keep working to ensure that innovative companies like MITRE have the support and resources they need to keep our country safe, secure, and free."
