Julie Bowen Appointed MITRE Vice President and General Counsel
MCLEAN, Va., February 4, 2014—The MITRE Corporation has appointed Julie Bowen vice president, general counsel, and corporate secretary. Bowen directs an in-house legal team that advises MITRE's leadership on all legal matters including cybersecurity, contracting, intellectual property, healthcare, real estate and national security. She also oversees MITRE's Government Relations Department as it tracks legislation, regulations, and policies that relate to MITRE work programs.
Bowen joined MITRE in 2006 as associate general counsel and is an expert in cybersecurity and intellectual property law. As part of her duties, she oversaw MITRE's Technology Transfer Office—guiding policies and practices in support of transferring MITRE-developed technologies to the public sector through patents and licensing. Since 2008, MITRE has implemented more than 250 technology licenses and received more than 60 patents. Previously, she held several senior legal positions in healthcare software services, technology, and finance.
"Julie brings the right combination of technical expertise and legal experience to our general counsel's office," said Alfred Grasso, MITRE president and CEO. "Under her leadership, MITRE will continue as a thought leader and technology innovator. We welcome her astute counsel on emerging issues facing our organization and her guidance on our government outreach efforts."
Bowen graduated from Catholic University where she received her B.A. and J.D. She is admitted to the bars of Maryland, the District of Columbia, and Virginia.
