San Antonio, Texas, Oct. 16, 2018—The San Antonio Express-News has named The MITRE Corporation to its Top Workplaces list for 2018, the second time in three years that MITRE has earned this recognition.

"As we help our sponsors level the playing field against cyber-attacks, protect critical infrastructure, and confront other tough challenges, our employees are our most valuable resource," said Kathleen Federico, MITRE chief human resources officer.  "We value our employees and are proud to offer them educational opportunities, exceptional benefits, a flexible work environment, and work life balance. We are honored again to be considered among the best places to work in the San Antonio area."

MITRE established its San Antonio location, which supports a wide variety of government organizations including the Air Force, in 1978. MITRE employees based here focus on military cyber and cryptologic systems, nuclear and biological sensors, and training.

The Top Workplaces list is based solely on anonymous employee feedback. MITRE employees scored the company highest on the following three statements:

  • I have the flexibility I need to balance my work and personal life.
  • MITRE operates by strong values and ethics.
  • My job makes me feel like I am part of something meaningful.

"Receiving the Top Workplaces honor is a great way to celebrate our 40th year in San Antonio," said Bobby Blount, MITRE's San Antonio department head. "Our staff here puts mission first as we help the Department of Defense and local governments make lives safer. We're honored that they in turn value MITRE as one the best places to work."

"Top Workplaces is more than just recognition," said Doug Claffey, CEO of Energage, which performed the survey. "Our research shows organizations that earn the award attract better talent, experience lower turnover, and are better equipped to deliver bottom-line results. Their leaders prioritize and carefully craft a healthy workplace culture that supports employee engagement."

Energage's survey measures aspects of workplace culture including alignment, execution, and connection.
